With this phrase Peter is describing the final return of Jesus Christ on the last day, in fulfillment of Jesus’ words (Matthew 24:36–44; 2 Peter 3:10). That is the day when the reborn will receive the inheritance now kept ready in heaven for them (1 Peter 1:5).
