2 Peter 3:8–10 (ESV)

8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Back in 2 Peter 1:7 and 2 Peter 1:11, Peter mentioned that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savour. As we read of a day with the Lord being like a thousand years (2 Peter 3:8), or the Lord not being slow in keeping his promises (2 Peter 3:9), or the day of the Lord coming like a thief (2 Peter 3:10), we are right to connect these statements with Jesus Christ. He is the second person of the Trinity, God in flesh (John 1:1–5). Being fully God and fully man, he knows exactly how we (human beings) experience time and why we find it hard to wait. We can also trust him to keep his promises, he has proven his faithfulness to us through his death and resurrection. Finally, we can also know that when the day of the Lord comes, it is the day when we will see our Saviour in all his glory, a day that we as Christians can look forward to without fear because our Lord has already paid the penalty that our sins deserve.
