1. 1 Peter 1:8 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

How can Peter say that the joy characterizing those who are born again is “filled with glory”?

1 Peter 1:8 (ESV)

8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,

Throughout the Bible the term “glory” is commonly attached to God to give expression to his gravitas, his splendour, his heavenly majesty. The joy that those who are born again experience is rooted in this heavenly dimension of God’s identity. The glory that belongs to God points Peter’s readers in the right direction as they seek to obtain a sense of what the inexpressible joy feels/looks like; there’s something divine about this joy, something heavenly.
