The principle which can be derived from this passage may be stated as follows: those who are vocationally in full-time service for the Lord should receive their sustenance from God’s people. Paul assumed this principle as he taught the believers in Corinth about giving to the work of the Lord (2 Corinthians 8:1 – 9:15). He also praised others for their generosity (Philippians 4:10, Philippians 4:16).
