As in 1 Peter 1:5, the phrase the revelation of Jesus Christ
alludes to the final moment in the history of the present existence, when our Lord will appear in the sight of all people on the clouds of heaven (Matthew 24:30–31; 1 Thessalonians 4:16). It is at that moment in history that the inheritance currently preserved in heaven for us will become ours in the full sense of the word. This is the moment upon which the apostle wants the elect to focus their full attention, with no clutter from the things of this life distracting them. That single-eyed focus on the glorious inheritance that is certain to come will require a manner of living which the apostle unpacks in the next verse.
13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
