In our English translation, the identity of this Lamb is revealed early in the sentence (with the word “Christ” attached to the word “blood”). Peter actually wrote: “with precious blood like that of a lamb without blemish or spot—Christ.” With that formulation Peter leaves the suspense of his readers’ unanswered till late in the sentence; they are ransomed through Christ’s blood, the perfect Lamb sacrificed on Calvary’s cross (Hebrews 9:14).
