1. Acts 2:39 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does it mean for the promise to be for the people's children?

Acts 2:39 (ESV)

39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”

The good news of the gift of the Spirit and the forgiveness of sins must be shared, also with the children of those listening to Peter and the apostles.1 They are also called to repent and believe in Jesus Christ along with all subsequent generations. The language used by Peter also echoes other promises found in the Old Testament, specifically Genesis 17:7 where the Lord promised that he would be a God to Abraham and his descendants.2
