The term Canaanites
is often used as an all-inclusive term denoting any people living in the land of Canaan regardless of their ethnic identity (Genesis 12:6; Genesis 36:2–3; Exodus 13:11; Ezekiel 16:3). However, sometimes, it is used to refer specifically to the group of people living near the sea and the Jordan River. Joshua 5:1 mentions them being along the coast and Numbers 13:29 along the sea and near the Jordan.1
10 And Joshua said, “Here is how you shall know that the living God is among you and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites.
