Some people might think that it was easier for Christ to stand firm because he had received the Spirit (Matthew 3:16). But ordinary people also received God’s Spirit—sometimes even to a special degree (e.g., the Nazirites in the Old Testament, but also all of God’s children from Pentecost onwards (see Acts 2:1–47). So it was just as difficult for Christ as for any ordinary person. It is true that he was without sin, but so was Adam. Jesus experienced the temptations as real temptations.
