1. Acts 2:46 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does it mean for the believers to break bread in their homes?

Acts 2:46 (ESV)

46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,

This does not refer to the Lord's Supper, as there is no definite article (the) before this phrase. This refers to normal meals (in contrast to Acts 2:42). Most certainly the believers enjoyed frequent table fellowship with one another.1 Typical food consumed at the time included legumes, eggs, olives, dates, figs, and sometimes fish.2
