David turned to God and asked for his grace. It almost looks like his supplication takes the form of negotiation with God, but like Heman (Psalm 88:1–18) and Hezekiah (Isaiah 38:1–22), David presented reasons why he should not die. Does this sound too pretentious? God’s affairs are our affairs as well, and as such, he has given us input.
Man was created to glorify, love, and serve God. David wanted the opportunity to continue worshipping the Lord and leading the nation. David’s concern was that if he were to die, there would be one less mouth to praise the Lord. A person who never brings praise to the Lord in public will never be able to use this appeal!
