The Israelites wore a garment known as sackcloth during periods of mourning. Everyone in the palace was likely wearing sackcloth while they were waiting for the expected tiding of David’s death. And then came the wonderful news of healing, and mourning changed into dancing to the glory of God.
The last words of the psalm are a pledge never to become complacent again—to praise God forever. True to his promise, David has left us with many beautiful psalms of praise.
