Isaiah received a rather strange command. He was to remove his clothing and his shoes and go about naked and barefoot. The sackcloth may refer to mourning clothes or typical prophet’s attire (2 Kings 1:8; Matthew 3:4). While Isaiah may have been in mourning about the deportation of the ten tribes, either option is plausible. Regardless of what he was wearing, he had to obey the Lord and remove his cloak.
2 at that time the LORD spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, “Go, and loose the sackcloth from your waist and take off your sandals from your feet,” and he did so, walking naked and barefoot.
