Here is yet another appeal to Yahweh to remain faithful to his covenant. But wasn’t the covenant broken by the unfaithful people? This may be true, but Asaph still humbled himself, knowing that God had promised to save a faithful remnant (Leviticus 26:40–42). Others who sought the grace of God during the time the temple lay in ruins were Daniel, Ezra, Nehemiah, and the author of Psalm 79:1–13 and Psalm 106:1–48.
The psalmist also talks about the dark places of the land.
What exactly these dark places are, is not clear.
20 Have regard for the covenant, for the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence.
