Psalm 80 uses the name Joseph as a collective name for the Ten Tribes.
When Jacob blessed his sons, he said to Joseph, yet his bow remained unmoved; his arms were made agile by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob (from there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel)
(Genesis 49:24). The psalmist also uses Shepherd of Israel,
an intimate title for the Lord. He confesses his faith in the Lord, who is enthroned upon the cherubim,
in contrast to the worship of calf images in Dan and Bethel, a practice which had been going on for two centuries.
1 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth.
