It underlines the overwhelming experience of God’s mercy and grace toward him and expresses a new-found love toward the Saviour. A sharp contrast is drawn between him and the people who want to expel Jesus from the region. The same words are used earlier on, where Jesus chose twelve disciples to be with him
(Mark 3:14).
