1 Thessalonians 2:14–16 (ESV)

14 For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are in Judea. For you suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they did from the Jews,

  • Introduction

  • Disciples of Jesus should not be surprised when they find themselves at odds with those who reject their master.

    • God’s servants throughout the ages have been rejected by those who do not acknowledge him.

    • Understanding this reality strengthens our resolve to remain faithful to Christ.

  • It is important to understand God’s perspective on our lives and on the conflicts we face.

    • Very often, those who are faithful to Christ are considered offensive and dangerous.

    • Christians need to rest secure in knowing that their lives are pleasing to God.

    • We need to ensure that we do not become arrogant in our conviction that we are pleasing to God, thus placing ourselves beyond correction.

  • God’s wrath is the ultimate evidence of his justice and righteousness; this is cause for rejoicing.

    • When God’s wrath is revealed in Scripture, it is always based on righteousness and truth.

    • God’s final judgment will put an end to the injustice of this present world.
