The Jewish council wants to bring any form of testimony about God’s work through Jesus to a complete halt.1 As a result, the apostles are prohibited from any public speaking and teaching about Jesus, any action that will influence people toward their point of view.2 With their announcement to the apostles they are operating according to the normal Jewish judicial procedure, a stern warning followed by prosecution if the action should recur.3
18 So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.
