Scripture now transfers us from the land of Uz to heaven itself. We know that this is a place where angels stand before the Lord, in order to serve him (Psalm 103:20). Here, as in 1 Kings 22:19–22, we read of a heavenly gathering. But in this gathering, Satan himself is present. The Hebrew name Satan
means opposer.
Clearly, in the time of Job, God still allowed Satan access into his throne room. This would change with the coming of Christ (Luke 10:18; Revelation 12:10).
6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.
