Paul’s action, we made every effort to see you
(NIV), is noteworthy for its zeal. The word translated made every effort
(ἐσπουδάσαμεν/espoudasamen) indicates that an action is performed with intense effort and motivation.
1 In this case, the action is Paul’s attempt to see the Thessalonians. Combined with the initial adverb (περισσοτέρως/perissoterōs), this is a powerful statement regarding Paul’s efforts to go back to Thessalonica. Therefore, it also says much about Paul’s love and concern for the believers there.
