Why did Moses strike down the Egyptian?

Acts 7:24 (ESV)

24 And seeing one of them being wronged, he defended the oppressed man and avenged him by striking down the Egyptian.

Moses killed the Egyptian because he wanted to help the Israelite man who was being mistreated. In doing so, he identified himself with Israel and showed that he was to be the one through whose hand God will give deliverance.1
