Why did Moses visit the Hebrews (Israelites)?

Exodus 2:11 (ESV)

11 One day, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his people and looked on their burdens, and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his people.

Moses was adopted as son of Pharaoh’s daughter (Exodus 2:10). This makes one wonder if he felt like an Egyptian or an Israelite? Exodus 2:11 suggests that he felt commitment toward the Hebrews and their oppression. The Hebrews are called his own people twice. In the Hebrew language it is written his brothers. He was the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, but the Hebrews were his real brothers.
