There is disagreement amongst commentators as to the genuineness of Simon’s response. Some understand his prayer to be an attempt to escape the consequences of his sin seeing as he is asking Peter to pray for him and is unwilling to do so himself.1 Others consider his plea for prayer to confirm that he has listened to Peter’s rebuke and is remorseful.2 Indeed there is nothing in the text to suggest that his request for prayer is not sincere.3
Simon surrenders - for the second time. Humbly he seeks grace from God and submits himself to the guidance of the apostles.
24 And Simon answered, “Pray for me to the Lord, that nothing of what you have said may come upon me.”
