1. Philemon 1:22 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Is Paul making plans to visit Philemon?

Philemon 1:22 (ESV)

22 At the same time, prepare a guest room for me, for I am hoping that through your prayers I will be graciously given to you.

The duty of hospitality was expected from Christian believers (Romans 12:13; 1 Timothy 3:2; Titus 1:8; Hebrews 13:2; 1 Peter 4:9). It is thus very natural for Paul to ask that accommodation be provided for him.1 Possibly Paul mentions his desire to visit Philemon as a subtle and gentle encouragement for Philemon to act on what Paul has written.2 If he comes to visit, he will want to see how things are between Philemon and Onesimus.
