Here Peter repeats the exact same word he used in 1 Peter 3:19 as to where Jesus went upon his resurrection from the dead; that is, Peter finishes the thought he began there (and from which he had briefly digressed). In 1 Peter 3:19 Peter said that Jesus’ going was itself a proclamation of victory heard clearly by imprisoned spirits (demons). Now Peter expands on the going through listing Jesus’ destination and the events that ensued upon his arrival.
