We are still witnessing a contest between God and Satan, centred on the question, Will Job curse (or desert) God or not? Job is not aware of this contest. Still he does not curse God and rather wishes for his own life to end. Eliphaz’s words have wrongly led him to conclude that God has turned against him. If that is the case, Job sees no reason to continue living.
