Genesis 1:11 (ESV)

11 And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so.

The land emerges. Everything is still bare and empty. We read in Genesis 1:2 that the earth was without form and void. Now the earth is no longer desolate, even though it is still empty. The Lord speaks again. He calls the trees and plants into existence. The most beautiful variety of colours and flowers appear on the earth. We should note that the Lord did not just plant seeds in the ground.
