A further explanation to what has been mentioned in the previous verse. As did his father Manasseh, Amon serves and worships the idols. Literally, it says that Amon walked in all the ways in which his father walked. Someone can walk on a wrong path, just like Manasseh and Amon, but you can also walk on the right path. In the Bible, to live according to the regulations of the Lord is compared with walking on “the way,” that is, the way of the Lord (see Deuteronomy 30:15–18, Psalm 1:1–6, and Psalm 119:1–176). And in the New Testament, “the Way” is used to show living in a Christian community (Acts 9:2, Acts 19:9, Acts 19:23, Acts 22:4, Acts 24:14, Acts 24:22). Living according to God’s will is like walking on the Way. Continue walking on that way; do not take any sideroads. And know that the final destination of that way is eternal life with Jesus Christ.
21 He walked in all the way in which his father walked and served the idols that his father served and worshiped them.
