Jesus was also accused of deceiving the people (John 7:12, John 7:47). He is called a deceiver by the leaders of the people (Matthew 27:64). As with Pharaoh, it is the devil who wants to silence God’s Word, and thus destroy his work. God delivers his people from the bondage of sin. Whoever denies and opposes this is a co-worker (child) of the devil (John 8:44). The devil tries to divide God’s people, and often with success (see Exodus 5:20–21).
9 Let heavier work be laid on the men that they may labor at it and pay no regard to lying words.”
