Notice that the battle itself is not described but only its outcome: the capture of the beast. That is amazing. In Revelation 13:3–4 we were told that “the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast” and they all said, “Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?” It turns out that the beast is no match for the Word. With its capture we may picture Christ plucking its ten diadems from its ten horns (Revelation 13:1) and adding them to the stash of “many diadems” on his own head (1 Chronicles 20:2). As a prisoner of war, the beast must now submit to the King of kings and Lord of lords.
20 And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.
