The Lord keeps the way to salvation open by sending Adam and Eve out of Paradise. He sends Adam away, who is the head of humanity and the head of the woman. Adam has to work the ground outside of Paradise. This ground is less fertile, and Adam has to put much more effort into it to get a good result (see also Genesis 3:17–19). Man’s mortality is further emphasized by the words “the ground from which he was taken.”
