Zephaniah 3:1–8 (ESV)

1 Woe to her who is rebellious and defiled, the oppressing city!

There are two main sections within Zephaniah 3:1–8: Zephaniah 3:1–5: a woe against Jerusalem; 2) Zephaniah 3:6–8: the Lord directly addressing Jerusalem with words of judgment and a small window of hope. Verse 8 serves also as a bridge between the woe against Jerusalem and the positive presentation of the renewal of the remnant in Zephaniah 3:9–13. See the exposition at Zephaniah 3:5 for a further discussion on that verse’s place in the flow of the text.
