God's purpose with trials

James 1:2–4 (ESV)

2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,

What do the trials in our life knock out of us? It will not happen perfectly in this life, but they knock out of us pride and self-sufficiency. They knock out of us the brashness of our youth that we become like Jesus—more like him, trusting him, humbler, godlier, sweeter, more mature. We become more aware of our sinful nature; I do become more aware of my sinful nature through trials. Therefore, we become more grateful for the grace of God.1
