Every good gift, every joy is from him. James 1:17 says, God never changes. He is the same every day. He is good every day. We can count on his goodness. Some days I wake up with a bad mood, but God never does that. He is the same every day. He is unalterably, unchangeably good. His goodness never fails. We can always count on his goodness in our trials. Here is the Word of the Lord: in our trials he loves us. When he is giving us the trials, he is not tempting us; he loves us. He wants us to be stronger. He wants us to know his love. But the most significant example of his goodness are not the gifts of creation, as wonderful as they are, but the most significant example can be found in James 1:18, which is the climax, and it is the new life he has given us in Christ. God is good.1
