The implanting of the Word is the writing of the law on our hearts by the Holy Spirit. So if you are a Christian today, God has written his law on your heart. He has implanted it in you. There are a lot of commands in James, but I want us to see right upfront something very important—James emphasizes grace; a word that is implanted in us. The obedience that we are called to in these verses is a grateful response to the grace of God. James is calling us to be what we already are in Christ. He is calling us to live out the grace that has already been poured out upon us. It has been implanted in us.1
Thomas Schreiner
21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
