James 1:19–20 (ESV)

19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;

Is all anger, across the board, sin? We will have to say no, because if that was true, then God the Father is sinning every day, because the Bible says God is angry with the wicked every day. And just to make sure that we understand this, it is found in two places in the Book of Psalms. God is angry with the wicked every day. Is anger a sin? No, we do not charge God with sin. Is anger a sin? No, because Jesus himself got angry while being a man on this earth, and yet we are told that he was without sin. So not all anger is sin. There is such a thing as righteous indignation. Paul goes on to say, be angry and do not sin…I believe that what Paul says is that there is a possibility of being angry without sinning. The problem is usually where there is anger, we misuse the motivation and use it to sin. Anger is an energy source. Unfortunately, we misuse that energy; we do not use it in a proper way.1
