Isaiah 17:14 describes the fate of the nation that threatened Judah. The history of how the Assyrian army was destroyed in a night can be read in Isaiah 36:1 – 37:38 and 2 Kings 19:1–37.
The mighty Assyrian army, under Sennacherib, marched against Judah in 701 BC. King Hezekiah pleaded with God to deliver them, and the following morning, 185,000 Assyrian soldiers lay dead. In the evening, there was terror, but by the morning, the enemy was gone!
14 At evening time, behold, terror! Before morning, they are no more! This is the portion of those who loot us, and the lot of those who plunder us.
