The verb “sanctified” is closely related to the noun “holy.” At the end of Leviticus 9:1–24, the Lord had manifested his glory before the nation. In this act, the nation was reminded of the presence of God with them. As the people drew near to him, there ought to have been an ever increasing recognition of the Lord’s holiness. During worship, the Lord should be treated as One who is set apart. If not, the Lord will defend his own honour.
3 Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the LORD has said: ‘Among those who are near me I will be sanctified, and before all the people I will be glorified.’” And Aaron held his peace.
