Often the expression man of God
describes a human prophet (Moses in Deuteronomy 33:1; Joshua 14:6; Psalm 90:1; anonymous prophet in 1 Samuel 2:27; Samuel in 1 Samuel 9:6–10; Shemaiah in 1 Kings 12:22). But this man of God
was certainly no run-of-the-mill prophet. His appearance overwhelmed Manoah’s wife. She had a sense of awe in his presence. She was speechless, not even having the presence of mind to ask his name or where he came from.1
