The deliverance of Jabesh ultimately comes about because of the Spirit’s power. Saul is presented as a super-judge, with the Spirit rushing upon him (1 Samuel 10:6, 1 Samuel 10:10) as it did for Samson (Judges 14:6, Judges 14:19; Judges 15:14),1 as well as Othniel (Judges 3:10), Gideon (Judges 6:34), and Jephtah (Judges 11:29).2 The filling of the Spirit would last until David replaced Saul as king (1 Samuel 16:13–14).3
6 And the Spirit of God rushed upon Saul when he heard these words, and his anger was greatly kindled.
