Do the men of Jabesh-gilead deceive the Ammonites?
1 Samuel 11:10 (ESV)
10Therefore the men of Jabesh said, “Tomorrow we will give ourselves up to you, and you may do to us whatever seems good to you.”
Confident that their compatriots would come to help them, the men of Jabesh-gilead appeared to promise a surrender.1 The Hebrew, however, simply specifies that they would come out on the morrow, which could also be a warning of a coming battle (see 1 Samuel 8:20).2
