1 Samuel 11:14 (ESV)

14 Then Samuel said to the people, “Come, let us go to Gilgal and there renew the kingdom.”

Gilgal was to the west of the Jordan River, the place where God had previously worked to bring Israel through the Jordan on dry land. A memorial stone was set up at this place (Joshua 4:1–24) and it was also the site where Israel’s circumcision took place (Joshua 5:1–12).1
