The word for God’s gracious will in Greek is “eudokia.” This word is about God’s pleasure. Jesus praises God for his pleasure to hide and to reveal the things of his kingdom. Think about how God responds to his Son when he was baptized to start the work on earth that the Father has given him. Jesus will do exactly what the Father wants. When he emerges from the Jordan, God is very happy and his voice from heaven sounds: “And behold, a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased’” (see Matthew 3:13–17).
26 yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.
