1. 1 Samuel 12:11 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What was Israel meant to learn from the LORD’s past acts of deliverance?

1 Samuel 12:11 (ESV)

11 And the LORD sent Jerubbaal and Barak and Jephthah and Samuel and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and you lived in safety.

Similar to Samuel, the Lord has also been faithful and good toward Israel. There is nothing in the Lord’s past actions toward his people that would necessitate asking for another king.1 The evidence that Samuel presents of God’s blessing on his people is meant to cast their apostasy in dark relief.2
