What does it mean that the Philistines heard of Jonathan's defeat of the garrison?
1 Samuel 13:3 (ESV)
3Jonathan defeated the garrison of the Philistines that was at Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, “Let the Hebrews hear.”
With this statement the author is conveying the fact that the Philistines realized that the attack on their governor/outpost was an act of rebellion or war.1 There is a sense of foreboding since the Philistines will now react to Jonathan’s actions.2
