It is easy in our increasingly immoral society to think of ourselves as righteous compared to those who commit grievous and atrocious sins. The glaring sins of society might blind us to our own sins and shortcomings, which, though perhaps less grievous to us, are nevertheless grievous to God, and which, if we fail to repent of them, will condemn us along with the ungodly of the world. It is imperative that we measure ourselves not by the standards or conduct of the ungodly world, but according to the standard of God’s Word. By doing so, we will become aware of our sins and shortcomings, and of the need for us to humble ourselves and seek God’s mercy and turn from our sin.
17 You have wearied the LORD with your words. But you say, “How have we wearied him?” By saying, “Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delights in them.” Or by asking, “Where is the God of justice?”
