God’s promise of blessing could never be earned by Israel through their giving of tithes. Their obedience to this and other commandments could never atone for their previous disobedience. Nor could they render obedience to any of God’s demands with that perfection that is required to earn a reward. Christ came to earth as the Last Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45), that is, as the legal head and representative of all those given to him. He rendered perfect obedience to secure blessings for his people. All God’s covenant promises find their Yes
and Amen
in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:20). It is for Christ’s sake that God showered his blessings upon unworthy Israel.
10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
