In the course of this life, the Lord causes the sun to rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:45). God also lays affliction and adversity on his beloved children and allows them to suffer for doing good (1 Peter 2:20; 1 Peter 3:17; 1 Peter 4:19). But on the day of the Lord, the righteous shall receive a gracious reward, while the wicked will receive their just punishment (Isaiah 65:14; John 5:28–29).
18 Then once more you shall see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.
