Psalm 55:2–3 (ESV)

2 Attend to me, and answer me; I am restless in my complaint and I moan,

Give me attention, Lord. Do not ignore me, but answer me. The author is moved to seek contact with God. He is very troubled and brings that to God. He is restless because of the troubles and fear; he is desperate and dismayed. The reason is the enemy’s scream—the opposition of the wicked. The enemy can be jotted down as singular (the genus), but also as individual persons.

For they bring misfortune and injustice over me, and they bombard me with their anger. This can become a nightmare for the author. A similar cry from the heart can be found in Jeremiah 4:19, My anguish, my anguish…my heart is beating wildly.
