Summary

The first word in the Hebrew version of this verse is significant. It is translated in quite different ways. Some translations have something like “fame of your goodness”; others translate this as “remembrance of your goodness.” The latter has a preference, because the word has the meaning nuance of: bringing to your attention the deeds of God, through spiritual effort and power of memory, and to so be strengthened by them. Whoever knows God in the deeds he has done, stands strong. That may be and must be sung about. The verb used with the remembrance of your goodness is often used for the spreading of water. With a downpour, little streams of water form and run in every direction; similarly the remembrance of God’s goodness can spread out. And then, undoubtedly, God’s righteousness will be sung about.
